What makes a classic Discovery a real head-turner? Condition is a big factor. A glossy paint in an arresting color sure helps. But how about "presence" - when all of it comes together to demand your attention? A "whole is greater than the parts" proposition perhaps. Well, that's our take on this gorgeous 2004 in Alverston Red. But its beauty is much more than skin-deep. With only 108k on the clock and a history mainly in rust-free Georgia, this truck is the right foundation for an excellent long-term ownership experience. We have applied our extensive history of repair and reconditioning of the 4.6l D2 series to this unit and the results have been wonderful, as I've confirmed in the course of driving it through our mandatory 500 mile Quality Assurance Test Drive. So here's some highlights of what's been done:
-Most importantly, the engine has been upgraded with the revolutionary Inline Thermostat System along with new cooling hoses and reservoir. As part of this process, the cooling system is flushed and a deep vacuum exerted to confirm that it has no leaks as the the new , correct coolant is installed.
-an engine tune-up including new coils, wires, and plugs.
-all fluids and filters have been checked or changed.
-new AC compressor and filter installed.
-the ABS system has been modified to prevent "3 Amigos".
- new +1.5" upsized Pirelli Scorpion AT Plus tires installed on freshly powder-coated Hurricane wheels.
-new brake rotor and pads all around
-wheel flares have been reconditioned
-headlight, fog lights, and license lights upgraded to LED
-powerful LED off-road spotlights, featuring Daytime Running Lights, added.
-new plastic trim around windshield and behind wipers.
-UV-repelling 3M window tint added.
-rear ladder added.
-inside, the notoriously leaky sunroof drains have been sealed and the drain lines re-routed.
-new headliner in "Lifetime Guaranteed" material installed.
-9" Boss touchscreen wit wireless Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth phone and audio, and back-up camera installed.
-new "leather-like" lever covers installed.
